WDW Parks – My Must Dos, Must Eats & Tips – Part 1

So my next few blogs are going to be about the Disney parks at Walt Disney World in Orlando. My must do rides, must eats and other things I love about them. Also tips and tricks so you can make the most out of your visit!

If you didn’t know, there are 4 parks at WDW, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Epcot. Plus 2 water parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.

So let’s get started with the one that will always have my heart… Magic Kingdom!

My Must Do Rides/Attractions

The following are the rides I love to do in Magic Kingdom and make sure I do on every visit:

  • Big Thunder Mountain
  • Haunted Mansion
  • Winnie the Pooh
  • Pirates of the Caribbean
  • Space Mountain
  • Peter Pans Flight
  • Under the Sea
  • Splash Mountain

These rides are all great fun. All the mountains (big thunder, space and splash) are all thrill rides and may have long lines. Splash Mountain can have shorter lines in the winter months but I would advise using a fast pass for Big Thunder Mountain and Space Mountain if you definitely want to ride them!

Peter Pans Flight, Winnie the Pooh and Under the Sea are all pretty similar, taking you around bits of the movies. I love these rides because they just remind me of my childhood so much, and they are so magical. These rides are also great for little ones. Peter Pans Flight is always one of the longest queues no matter what time of year, so best to fast pass or rope drop this ride!

Pirates of the Caribbean is also pretty similar to those above, it’s a boat ride taking you through the story of the film, it’s great fun. Same with Haunted Mansion, which is definitely in my top 3 rides! I just love everything about it. It’s so clever and fun, and there’s so much to look at. That’s always one of our fast pass options.

Must Eats

Now we all know that food is an important part of our trip lol, and there are always new snacks or foods that I wanna try every time we visit. I’m a complete sucker for Mickey shaped snacks! My favourite sweet snack are the Mickey shaped rice crispy treats, or some kind of Mickey shaped cookie!

Below I’m going to list some of the top eats to try at Magic Kingdom:

  • Dole Whip – so many people’s favourites! Definitely worth trying one. There are a lot more flavours and places that do them now compared to when I was last at WDW. I wasn’t a big fan of pineapple so I didn’t enjoy it too much, but I’m definitely looking forward to trying some new flavours!
  • Mickey Cake Pops – all different flavours available, but the red velvet is a popular one!
  • Cupcakes – there are always a ton of special cupcakes available at WDW. Try and find the limited edition ones at MK while you’re there and see which are your favourites.
  • Corn Dogs or Special Hotdogs at Casey’s Corner – they are always doing special hotdogs with all kind of toppings. Over the Christmas period they normally do a 12 days of Christmas with 12 different hotdogs! Another favourite meal is the mini corn dogs and fries.
  • Cheeseburger Spring Rolls – these are a super popular snack, and sometimes they have other flavours available. I can’t wait to try these on my next visit!!

Must See

I’m a big fan of the other entertainment available to you at the parks other than the rides. Such as parades, shows, fireworks. Here are some of the things I love to see, or hope to see in the future:

  • The Dapper Dans
  • Festival of Fantasy Parade
  • Once Upon a Time
  • Happily Ever After
  • Move it! Shake it! Mousekedance it!
  • And festival events, such as Halloween or Christmas specials

Tips & Tricks for Magic Kingdom

Ok so I’m gonna go ahead and tell you guys some of the things I suggest doing/not doing on your trip to Magic Kingdom…

  • I think you would need at least 2/3 full days in Magic Kingdom. You still probably won’t see or do everything (depending on the time of year for your visit) but it will give you a good chance to get around a lot of it and see the park without having to rush around
  • Main Street USA always opens earlier than the advised park opening time. If you’re heading to WDW at a busy time of year, or you just want to have less crowds, it’s best to be at the park early (before opening). You can use this time to check out the shops on Main Street, and get some amazing photos before it gets too busy. They have a little show to open the park 5 mins before by the castle, and then you can get as many rides done as possible in the first few hours before it gets busier, which is normally around 11am-noon
  • Book your fast passes in advanced! You have 60 days if you’re staying on Disney property, 30 days if you’re off property. Don’t book fast passes for the morning or late in the evening because this is when stand-by times are smaller. Try and book your fast passes for the afternoon when it’s busier in the park
  • My advise for fast passes in this park would be Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain and Peter Pans Flight. These rides always have the longest wait time. If you can’t get any of this as a fast pass, then consider rope dropping them (hit them as soon as the park opens)
  • Make sure you check out height restrictions before booking your fast passes if you having smaller kids with ya
  • Once you have used your 3 booked fast passes, you can check the My Disney Experience app to book more
  • A lot of people head straight to Tomorrow Land to ride Space Mountain, I’d advise going to the back towards Fantasy Land, or going the opposite way around the park
  • You can take snacks and soft drinks into the parks! Have a refillable water bottle and this can be filled up at any quick service restaurant
  • You can join a ride queue just before closing and they have to let you ride. This can sometimes be a great time to ride if you’ve already seen the fireworks and it’s a busy time of year
  • Don’t rush out after the parks closing time. Everybody always leaves as soon as the fireworks are done, which is chaos! Stick around, get some great pics of the castle and Main Street as it gets quieter, or browse in the shops on Main Street on your way out

I hope you guys found this helpful. Check out tomorrow’s post where I will be going over Animal Kingdom!
